Best LED watches | BUYING GUIDE

We run through some of the best modern LED watches that really connect today's buyers with the forward-thinking spirit of the 70's. When the so-called quartz crisis of the 1970s rocked Switzerland, it shook up the watch industry as we knew it, with longstanding manufacturers scrambling to figure out how to navigate a market where battery-driven watches could make mechanical timekeeping obsolete. Ironically, thanks to creative and strategic thinkers like Jean-Claude Biver, this obsolescence would eventually become charming once again – along with the fact that, if taken care of properly, a mechanical timepiece will last for generations. However, in the ’70s, the innovative technology and design introduced by quartz timepieces, such as LED displays, were highly attractive and fashionable. It is crazy to think now that prestigious retailers such as Tiffany & Co. would co-brand and sell watches like the Pulsar P2 – with celebrities such as Jack Nicholson, Elton John, Sammy Davis Jr and Keith Richards all sporting variations of the watch (and in solid gold, no less!) L-R: an advertisement for an early Texas Instruments LED watch; and a Hewlett-Packard HP-01, an early LED calculator watch that’s been described as “the first smartwatch”.Of course, one of the most prominent wearers of LED watches was Roger Moore, who as James Bond famously donned a Pulsar P2 in Live and Let Die (1973). Such a futuristic design paired perfectly with Britain’s favourite secret agent, whose adventures filled with hi-tech gadgetry sparked the imaginations of filmgoers worldwide. While Switzerland’s mechanical watch manufacturers were traumatised by the quartz crisis, today many are now revitalising their LED designs to celebrate their innovation and pioneering spirit – both qualities that we could argue are sorely needed in the industry today.

r/Watches on Reddit: [LED Watches] What are your thoughts on LED watches?

Hey all, recently I have been really into LED watches, I absolutely love their space-age designs and the history behind them. Also pressing a button… I have never thought of these watches as "old" and "obsolete" (even though they technically are), instead, I see LED watches as having a certain "cool factor" that you just can't find these days. I wish to own one (or more) someday. Maybe my dad will hand his down to me eventually.I am already aware of this watch and am contemplating purchasing it as a cheap, fun watch to wear every now and then. Thanks for the link to where I can get it cheaper however! ... I love the vintage ones. I'm just old enough that I can barely remember seeing them when they were new technology. The new ones usually don't have the same kind of LED display.I'm not even close to being old enough for that haha. Yeah I've noticed that the new ones, although somewhat similar, just don't have the same LED display, which somewhat ruins it. The original Bulova is very cool, do you wear it often? I believe there were also many unbranded LED watches from that era.I have two Yema LED watches (the 'normal' one and the Kavinsky edition) and I wear them fairly often. The silver LED dresses up really well and they both work well in casual settings. I know legibility can be a concern and it's valid but I wear them because I love the design and they're just great fun!

This Amazfit smartwatch just got one of my most essential Garmin features - and I love it | ZDNET

The LED flashlight is a daily staple on my Garmin watch - and Amazfit may be the first affordable alternative to include it. If you've read any of my Garmin reviews over the past couple of years, then you know that I use the watch's LED flashlight daily. I've been asking for Coros, Suunto, Polar, Apple, and Samsung to include this function on their watches without any luck.Thankfully, Amazfit stepped up, and the new Amazfit T-Rex 3 Pro sports a two-color LED flashlight that competes with Garmin. Also: I tested the best sports watches in 2025: Here are the latest and greatest watches, no matter your budgetAmazfit may have implemented the LED flashlight after Garmin's success, but the company has also added customization and optimization for the user. ... Last year, after a 30-year hiatus, I started downhill skiing again. I now have all of my gear and an Icon pass to tackle the slopes this winter. The T-Rex 3 Pro supports resort ski maps with slope color codes and lift dynamics, so I can't wait for the snow to come so that I can test out the watch in that environment. The one feature I have been looking for in another company to launch with in order to compete with Garmin has now appeared, as the LED flashlight is present on the top of the Amazfit T-Rex 3 Pro. The watch launches at a reasonable $400 price with flagship materials, extensive and customizable activity support, and in an ecosystem that offers serious competition to the most popular wearables today.

Samsung's Micro LED Smartwatch Concept Is the Brightest Screen I've Seen on a Watch - CNET

I love a prototype, and Samsung Display's ultrabright watch display hints at smartwatches to come. James Martin/CNET · Does anyone need a screen that bright on their wrist? That was my thought when I saw Samsung Display's micro LED smartwatch concept at CES 2025. Even when glancing at it from a distance, I could see how incredibly bright the screen is compared with the standard smartwatch, making the luminous Las Vegas Sphere and streetlights shown on the watch's display really pop. Read more: The Official Best of CES 2025 Winners, Awarded by CNET Group · The screen uses Micro LED, a type of display technology that uses a bunch of tiny LEDs to show images, often resulting in better brightness.Samsung and other companies already use the technology in their TVs, but the technology has yet to make its way to wearables. However, Apple was previously rumored to have been working on micro LED displays for the Apple Watch but has since abandoned that initiative, according to Bloomberg.A placard near the watch indicated its brightness is under 4,000 nits at its maximum, compared with the Apple Watch Ultra 2's 3,000-nit screen and the Pixel Watch 3's 2,000-nit display. However, it was so bright that certain parts of the image looked a little washed out. ... Samsung Display isn't the only company exploring micro LED wearables.Taiwan-based display maker AUO also mentions micro LED screens for wearables on its website. · There's also the question of why a display so bright would be useful on the wrist, if at all. If Samsung were to ever incorporate this technology into a future Galaxy Watch -- and that's a big if -- I could see how it would make sense on a Pro or Ultra model designed for outdoor use.

More recently, it was revived, and the company’s backers have released their first watch, known as the Neprosolar. It is a retro-futuristic, solar-powered quartz LED display driver-style watch intended for collectors but not too lavishly priced. The 1976 Neprosolar was a highly advanced watch when it was launched at that year’s Baselworld show in Switzerland. It not only showcased an interesting and modern design, but also combined precision timekeeping (digital quartz display) with the autonomy of light-powered electricity generation. Even back then, people didn’t like to change batteries. Nepro seems to have introduced a solar-powered LED watch in 1975, but improved the design and added the “Neprosolar” name a year later in 1976.The 1960s introduced electric-powered watches and then quartz oscillator-controlled models. They first used traditional analog dials, but soon started to experiment with digital screens. Before there were LCD (liquid crystal display) screens, they were LED (light-emitting diode) displays for the time.

Richard's Top 5 Best Digital Watches for Every Budget

The shell was made of black resin, with a stainless-steel case back and push buttons. The strap was also resin. The watch featured a 1/100-second stopwatch with a cut-off at 59:59.99 minutes. Illumination was provided by a tiny green LED microlight with minimal drain on the battery. Richard Brown explores his Top 5 best digital watches for all budgets. Including contenders from Casio, G-SHOCK, Garmin and Omega...As you will see, in this far from prescriptive list, digital does not translate to cheap. Yes, you can pick up a cracking digital watch for less than £10, which we showcase here, but equally, you could part with over £5,000 if you go all in and plan on spending your vacation in the International Space Station. In 1989, Casio set out to shake up the lucrative entry-level end of the digital market by creating a legible, durable, accurate, cheap watch for the masses that could meet all daily needs. The result was the fabulous F-91W, designed by a young Ryusuke Moriai in his first foray for Casio. The watch that broke the internet (including our YouTube channel). If you are unfamiliar with the CasiOak series, I suggest you look it up now to understand the sheer amount of traffic it received on its 2019 release. Why was it such a hit?
